During our first meeting this past Friday, one of our members made a statement that inspired me to share it with you. He said,
"The best way I get my speeches is by giving them. I get referrals every time I speak, so why wouldn't I speak as often as possible whether paid or not? Some of my most lucrative speaking gigs have come from referrals off speeches where I wasn't paid nearly what I wanted - some even freebies. The $15K - $20K speeches allow me to speak at any price I want now. Every speech leads to more."
His philosophy on how he runs his speaking business affirms what I've been writing to you in this newsletter for months. This principle affirms everything in my book, PAID to SPEAK, where I share it all.

Your strategy for speaking, regardless of where you are at, should be to SPEAK as often as possible.
I don't mind sharing this with you ... over 70% of my speaking gigs come from referrals where someone saw me speak. They either were in charge of planning a future event, knew someone who was seeking a speaker, or had shared my information with someone else because they really enjoyed my program.
So similar to the quote I shared with you above, why wouldn't I speak as often as possible?
... this is why I DO! But are you?
If you only speak when you expect to be paid what YOU want, then you will never reach your full potential in your own business. Acknowledge your ego, and leave it at the door for Amazon Prime to return it wherever it came from, respectfully!
What got ME started in the speaking business was SPEAKING wherever, whenever, and for whatever payment I could get. And it should be what I continue to do despite success.
I'm always priming my pump, which is why my pump is flowing right now!
You see, the best marketing for a speaker is to SPEAK!
I'm not suggesting you speak for free all day long, but you need to be priming it until your speaking pump is flowing.

If you don't have many speaking clients yet, then SPEAK to get some. Whether you speak for free or not, they are still a client.
If you don't have many testimonials, then SPEAK to get some.
If you don't have a good demo video, then SPEAK to get one.
If you don't feel confident about your speech, then SPEAK to groups like Toastmasters, Meetup groups, PRISM and others until you feel more comfortable.
If you don't have referrals for your speaking, then SPEAK to get some.
If you want to find meeting planners and event organizers, then SPEAK to meet them. They'll be in your audience when you least expect it.
Everything above is required by meeting planners to book a speaker. So quit dilly-dallying and get what you need to get booked ... and PAID!

The only way to get good at anything is to practice. If you're passionate and truly committed to developing a speaking business, your hunger needs to outweigh all the work required to break through.
