Lessons AFFIRMED from receiving a $7,500 speaking engagement 🔥

I recently shared some stinging lessons 'earned' from losing a $7,500 speaking engagement.  I write posts like that to process myself (i.e. speaker therapy!) but also in the hopes that my experience helps you in some way.

** Now though let me share lessons AFFIRMED from receiving that same $7,5000 speaking inquiry ... how it came to be, what I did to receive it, etc.

But first, if you have not already read my post about losing the engagement, click below to read.

New Post!"

Lessons AFFIRMED from Receiving a $7,500 Speaking Engagement"

While it's easy to feel frustrated over losing a $7,500 speaking engagement, there's much to be thankful for and proud of in having received the inquiry in the first place.

More opportunities will come—indeed, they already have.

And rest assured, I’m determined to secure that keynote in 2026!

(Note: I’ve set calendar reminders for follow-up next year and sent copies of my books.)

Let’s explore how this $7,500 speaking engagement came about, with the hope that these insights help you land similar speaking opportunities:

  1. Having a Professional Website: The inquiry originated from my website, KevinCSnyder.com. Check it out here. A well-crafted website acts as a key indicator of professionalism and credibility.

  2. An Effective Contact Page: My Contact Page, available here, played a crucial role. It not only allowed the inquirer to reach out but also provided key information, such as their speaker budget, which was $7,500.

  3. Visibility Through Speaking Engagements: The inquirer had seen me speak previously. To increase your chances of landing speaking gigs, ensure you’re actively speaking. For tips on finding speaking opportunities, refer to Modules 2 and 3 in PAID to $PEAK.

  4. Utilizing Email Marketing and Lead Capture: The person who reached out was on my Mailchimp list, having opted in through a system called Talkadot, which captures emails and leads during my presentations.

  5. Maintaining Communication with Past Audiences: As “they don’t need a speaker until they need a speaker,” staying in touch with past audiences is crucial. I communicate with them bi-weekly through Mailchimp.

Lessons Affirmed:

  1. A Professional Website Is Essential: A speaker’s website is a cornerstone of their professional presence. Check out my website for an example of what works: KevinCSnyder.com.

  2. A Comprehensive Contact Page Matters: Ensure your Contact Page asks the right questions to gather essential information. See mine for reference: KevinCSnyder.com/Hire-Kevin.

  3. Speak Often to Gain Referrals: The more you speak, the more referrals you’ll receive.  A great speech will always be referred!

  4. Use a Lead Capture System: Implement a system for capturing audience emails and generating leads. Talkadot has been invaluable for me. Get a FREE 30-day trial of Talkadot here. This system has been transformative for my speaking business over the past year.

  5. Stay Engaged with Past Audiences: Regular communication keeps you top of mind for future opportunities. Try Mailchimp free for a month here.

I hope these lessons serve as valuable insights for your speaking career.
